This TED TALK talks about how the American Dream has changed over time. She states how people equate the American Dream as having money and being successful. She then goes on to say how this is unrealistic and outdated in the 21st century. For example, she says how "the biggest dancer is not failing to achieve the American Dream", but goes on to say how "the biggest dancer is achieving a dream that you don't actually believe in." Martin proposes an idea that all of us should we work like our mothers so we can prioritize our children first and foremost. She explains how its better to work for something you enjoy then doing something that you don"t like and don"t believe in. The main point she is bringing up here is that "The American Dream" is more based off of happiness rather then money. This talk relates to the Diane Sawyer documentary. The people in this documentary were struggling to make ends meet. Martin viewpoint was that if the people weren't so worried about money that they would be more successful. This speech makes me realize that the American Dream is not just defined as being rich or successful. The American Dream is based off on one's happiness. One can have money but not be happy. This talks made me realize that all of us have different meaning of what the dream means to us and each and every individual has their own views on this issue.I enjoyed this speech because it very insightful and taught me many things that I did not know about.
