In this Ted Talk, Greg Smith is talking about how the American Dream is not dead. He explains how we are evolving and the one’s that are changing. The goal for many Americans is to be able to own a home and provide their families. Greg Smith using ethos by using things that relate to every American. For example, he says that quality education is the ticket to a better life. He uses pathos by explaining the things we dream for by saying how we dream for a quality life for our family and also by saying that we dream our next generation has a better life than the last. He uses these things to unify the audience in achieving their achieving dream. He uses logos by using data when talking about the American Dream. For example, he says how “we are 64.1 percent as a nation on our way to fully achieving the American Dream. He also uses logos by explaining how a study he conducted said that “ our dream cup is almost ⅔ full.” The talk was very short but he laid out his viewpoints very precisely. He demonstrated a casual tone when speaking to the audience and used pictures and data to get his point across. This speech was directed to people pursuing the American Dream. He lists the goals that each and every American wants for them or their family. This talk relates to the American Dream because he lists our wants and desires as well. For example, he says how “ we do not only dream of the things we need we dream of the things we desire”. This example shows what Americans are facing today. Most don't know what they want because each person’s American Dream is defined differently. This shows how the American Dream cannot be fully achieved till we accept that we have achieved it. I enjoyed this speech because I liked how he was positive and creates an attitude that any person can achieve their American Dream if they work hard. This relates to the message that Obama said in his 2004 keynote address. I really enjoyed this speech because it gives hope that all of us can achieve our dream with hard work and dedication.
